July Art Weeks 2010

It's time to register for The Arts Center at Killingworth's July Art Weeks...for your child, your teen, or for yourself!. This year's three Art Weeks include Fashion is the Passion, Flamenco & Gypsy Culture, and Music & Art Week for Kids. For more information and registration form, download the two-page Brochure (PDF) Here.

Fashion Week is Back! Fashionistas experience the world of fashion through illustration, designing patterns, and sewing their creations. Been part of Fashion Week or have taken fashion illustration with us in the past? This Week is still for you! NEW projects include drawing for Male Fashion Design and Group illustration with artist and graphic designer, Gloria Nilsson. To prepare you for the photo shoot with photographer, k’Dee from D’Vine Studios, your hair will be done by professional stylist, David Schumann. Then you will be ready for our end of the week fashion show for friends and family!

NEW! Flamenco & Gypsy Culture for both teens and adults. In this Week-long Art and Culture adventure with Elizabeth Santos Read, learn the footwork (taconeo), arm movements, and clapping in rhythm (palmas) needed for the magical dance of Flamenco. Each afternoon, explore the rich culture of Flamenco through videos, gypsy music, and by decorating and using various props. Learn about and sample typical Spanish cuisine. For the end of the Week performance, learn Sevillanas, the typical dance of Andaluzia from the South of Spain. Adults can register for the entire week or for individual Workshops. Expect to learn a few words in Spanish! Hasta luego!

Another First! Music & Art Week for Kids! Children spend the morning with musician and teacher Meg Gister having a “musical experience” with singing, movement and rhythm games. For a special treat, children become “rock stars” as a local musician guides the group to write a tune. Each afternoon is spent with professional artists creating 2-D and 3-D Art forms. They’ll work with artist Gloria Nilsson and draw from life using oil pastels, create simple architectural drawings and a stylized portrait à la Picasso. Participants then head over to artist Debra Lee’s World of 3-D to sculpt with clay, be part of a paper-making workshop and become architects, designing and creating their own model of a building - be it practical or fantastical!.

That they can join July Art Weeks! Be part of Fashion Week, Flamenco & Gypsy Culture, or Music & Art Week.

July Art Weeks are held at The Arts Center.
